Job summary

Kaweah Health in Visalia, CA, seeks an ER unit support role to coordinate patient care activities under a registered nurse’s supervision. The position emphasizes accurate charting, timely data entry, and effective communication with the nursing team.

The ideal candidate has crisis intervention training and basic computer skills; healthcare experience is preferred. This full-time role is day shift and part of the Emergency-ED team, offering benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• Must have crisis intervention training approved by Kaweah Health within 60 days of hire
• Healthcare experience preferred
• Must have computer skills to support department needs

Responsibilities

• Collaborates and communicates with the nursing staff to maintain accurate records during the patient's hospitalization.
• Accurately enters patient data into computer on all admissions, discharges, and transfers; enters all computer orders within two hours and processes STAT orders immediately.
• Keeps Head Nurse/Lead Nurse informed of admits discharges, and transfers by frequent communication.
• Prepares and maintains patient's charts; ensures forms are filed in the chart and chart is orderly; assembles chart after discharge for Medical Records.
• Transcribes orders as directed by unit procedures, accurately and legibly on the rand card.
• Files all Lab results appropriately on chart.
• Distributes materials to appropriate persons.
• Refers complaints and problems to the Head Nurse/Lead Nurse immediately.
• Assists nursing staff by transporting specimens, observation, and retrieving items needed for patient care; certified to pick up blood from Lab.
• Maintains confidentiality with all patient care issues.
• Answers patient or family questions or refers them to the appropriate personnel.
• Answers phones within four rings.
• Active participant in achieving quality patient care.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to the population served on the unit.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential

• Prepares and maintains patient's charts. Reviews charts at the end of every shift to ensure adequate supply of forms are filed in the chart and that the chart is maintained in proper order. Ensures that after discharge the patient's chart is completely assembled for Medical Records. Prepares chart in proper order for patients transferred to another unit.
• Transcribes orders as directed by unit procedures, accurately and legibly on the rand card.
• Files all Lab results appropriately on chart.
• Copies all materials as directed and distributes to appropriate persons.
• Refers complaints and problems to the Head Nurse/Lead Nurse immediately.
• Assists nursing staff in achieving quality patient care by transporting specimens, observation, and retrieving items needed for patient care. Is certified to pick up blood from the Lab.
• Maintains confidentiality with all patient care issues.
• Answers patient or family questions or refers them to the appropriate personnel.
• Answers phones within four rings.
• Is an active participant in achieving quality patient care.

Pay Range

$20.38 -$30.57
