Job summary

Kern Valley Healthcare District in California seeks a FT Unit Secretary for the SNF to provide organizational, receptionist and clerical support to the patient care units. You will communicate information accurately and courteously to patients, visitors, nurses and staff, ensuring a well-organized unit and confidentiality of resident records.

Responsibilities include preparing admission charts, audits for quality assurance, maintaining census and coordinating with multiple departments.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel and Windows.
  • Able to type 45 words per minute accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare charts with appropriate forms for new admissions.
  • Completes audits of the Weekly Nursing Summaries daily and provides results to the Director of Nursing.
  • Monitors and documents omissions for CNA charting.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing with completion of various audits and reports for Quality Assurance upon request.
  • Inform DON of non-compliance with daily mandated charting requirements.
  • Maintains current resident and staffing census daily.
  • Works with staff ensuring all documentation is copied and ready to send with resident for any physician appointment made out of the facility.
  • Monitors for the completeness of admission charts using checklist and notify Charge Nurse daily of any items still to be completed.
  • Obtains requested items from Clinical Laboratory, Central Service, Pharmacy, or other departments.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to nurse managers, team leaders, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consult other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the residents' needs.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of resident's records.
  • Create and update excel spreadsheets for tasks needed for SNF and teach other staff how to use them.
  • Assist the infection Control nurse in various tasks needed for state regulations.

FT UNIT SECRETARY - SNF

$21.00 - $30.70 per hour

The unit secretary will provide organizational, receptionist and clerical support to the patient care units and supports patient care maintenance to ensure an efficient, well-organized unit. Communicate information accurately in a pleasant and efficient manner to a variety of people, including, but not limited to, patients, visitors, nurses, medical staff, and other departments. The unit secretary also functions as a resource to members of the health care team in matters pertaining to non-direct patient care and is familiar with multiple medical center resources. Conducts all aspects of the job using good judgment and problem-solving skills and assumes the responsibility of self-development within the role. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, as well as nursing and facility policies and procedures. Assure's supplies and equipment are readily available and safely stored.

ROLES And RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare charts with appropriate forms for new admissions.

  • Monitors for the completeness of admission charts using checklist and notify Charge Nurse daily of any items still to be completed.
  • Obtains requested items from Clinical Laboratory, Central Service, Pharmacy, or other departments.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to nurse managers, team leaders, co-workers, and physicians.

QUALIFICATIONS And SKILLS
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant certification is a plus but not required
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Strong clerical, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows. Capable of learning new software programs.
  • Able to type 45 words per minute accurately.
