Job summary

Ciena Healthcare is seeking an RN Unit Manager for one of its Michigan facilities. The role provides clinical leadership, mentors nursing staff, and ensures safe, high-quality resident care in compliance with regulations.

The position is on-site with no travel requirements and reports to Nursing Administration. Ideal candidates will hold a BSN preferred and have at least 2 years in long-term care with 1 year in a supervisory role, plus an active RN license and CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in long-term care or post-acute setting.
• Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
• Current RN license in the state of employment; CPR certification required or within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises nursing care provided by RNs, LVNs/LPNs and CNAs/STNAs.
• Performs supervisory responsibilities in line with policies and laws.
• Interviews, hires and trains staff; plans and directs workflow.
• Prepares evaluations and manages staffing, schedules and break coverage.
• Ensures resident safety and regulatory compliance.

Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Manager provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations of an assigned nursing unit. This position ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and resident-centered care in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, facility policies, and professional standards of practice. The RN Unit Manager serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for nursing staff, while fostering a positive and collaborative environment that supports residents, families, and team members.

Responsibilities:

• Supervises nursing care provided by Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants/State Tested Nursing Assistants.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
• Supervisory responsibilities include:
  • Interviews, recommend hires and trains employees
  • Plans, assigns, and directs workflow.
  • Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
  • Receive calls and find replacements for absent staff as needed
  • Transfers employees within units as needed.
  • Prepares performance evaluations with the understanding that such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees.
  • Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks.
  • Receives and resolves employee complaints.
  • Determines rotation of nurses within unit.
  • Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
  • Disciplining employees up to and including recommendation of discharge.
  • Adequately supervises assigned staff and assures that those staff are supervising employees assigned to them.

Education and/or Experience:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in long-term care or post-acute setting.
• Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
• Working knowledge of nursing practice, infection control, and regulatory requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
• Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
