The Lyman Briggs College (LBC) is an undergraduate, degree-granting residential college that provides a dynamic and inclusive community for its students, faculty, advisors, and staff who live or work in Holmes Hall. LBC is a college of the whole (non-departmental) serving approximately 2,000 undergraduate students pursuing more than 35 majors. The college employs approximately 50 faculty members representing a broad range of disciplines, including STEM, social sciences, and the humanities, as well as approximately 15 staff members. The college's workforce includes employees represented by six collective bargaining units, as well as more than 150 student employees who support the college's teaching, research, and administrative functions each year.
Reporting to the College Budget Officer, the Unit Human Resources Administrator coordinates and administers a broad range of human resources functions in support of LBC faculty, academic staff, support staff, advisors, graduate assistants, temporary employees, and student employees. The position serves as a primary resource for day-to-day human resources operations, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, payroll administration, personnel transactions, performance management support, employee relations coordination, training, compliance monitoring, and record management.
This position works collaboratively with college leadership, college supervisors, Michigan State University Human Resources, and other university partners to ensure consistent implementation of human resources policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and employment regulations. The Unit Human Resources Administrator contributes to a responsive, compliant, and collaborative workplace by ensuring effective HR operations and serving as a trusted resource for employees, supervisors, and college leadership. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with an expected on-campus presence four days per week and the opportunity to work remotely one day per week.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing human resource functions, designing and implementing training programs and human resource/labor relations management and computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A working knowledge of MSU Human Resources policies and procedures for both academic and non-academic employment, experience using HR and payroll systems, and familiarity with faculty, staff, graduate assistant, student employee, and temporary employee personnel processes. The successful candidate will possess: the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively; and the ability to support an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative workplace; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
