Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, Florida is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support unit workflow, manage charts, and communicate with care teams. The role involves updating patient records, assisting with admissions and discharges, and ensuring documentation accuracy in a busy hospital environment.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, completion of Health Unit Coordinator coursework, and BLS certification. Hospital experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of hospital experience as a health unit coordinator or similar role (e.g., medical office or outpatient clinic).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties to ensure smooth operation of the department or unit.
• Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and documents appropriately.
• Accesses medication room to place medications in a secure area upon arrival to the floor.
• Interacts with patients appropriately to their age, acuity, and culture and posts pertinent patient data timely.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and supports quality standards.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges as needed.

Job Description:

Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit. Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, forms, computer, and electronic record. Accesses the medication room to place medications in a secure area upon arrival to the floor. Other duties as assigned. Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrade skills. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and accurately documents and monitor activities as needed. Interacts with patients in a manner appropriate to their age, acuity, and culture. Posts pertinent patient data in a timely manner. Responds appropriately in emergency situations. Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer, and discharge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
