Job summary

Samaritan Medical Center is seeking a Unit Aide in the Obstetrics area to provide compassionate patient care for mother-baby pairs under RN supervision. You will assist with activities of daily living, document care, and support the obstetric team in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires strong teamwork, basic computer skills, and the ability to communicate clearly. Previous maternity or medical-surgical experience is preferred, with BLS certification to be obtained if needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; nursing assistant program preferred.
  • Maternity and/or medical-surgical experience preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred; ability to document accurately.
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of the RN and collaborate with the care team.
  • Assist with ambulation, turning patients and promoting comfort.
  • Prepare the surgical suite for cesarean births and support SST and circulating RN.
  • Maintain medical records, transcribe orders, answer phones and relay messages.
  • May assist with follow-up appointments, ordering DME, data entry and insurance follow-up.

Location: Samaritan Medical Center Department: 01.6251 SMC OBSTETRICS ACUTE Pay Range: 16.45 - 20.97

The Unit Aide, in applicable department, provides compassionate patient care to mother baby couplets. Under the direction of the registered nurse, this individual provides direct patient care and works collaboratively with other patient care team members including the patient and family, to achieve optimal patient outcomes. All care is provided under the direction and supervision of a registered or licensed nurse. The Unit Aide assists with activities of daily living and delegated patient care treatments and procedures.

Is responsible to assist with ambulation of patients, turning patients and promoting comfort.

The Unit Aide, in applicable departments, prepares the surgical suite prior to cesarean births and supports the SST and circulating RN.

The Unit Aide is responsible for maintaining medical records, transcribing orders, answering telephones, and taking and relying messages appropriately.

Additionally, Unit Aides in ARU, may be responsible for the following: making follow up appointments upon patient discharge, ordering Durable Medical Equipment and helping with data entry, provider charges, supply ordering and insurance follow up via phone/fax.

High school level of knowledge. Previous experience, nursing student or graduate from a nursing assistant program. Previous Maternity and/or medical surgical experience preferred. Computer experience preferred.

Works effectively with others, possess tact, discretion and diplomacy. Ability to work under stress and complete duties sometimes with numerous interruptions. Must be able to write legibly and be able to document accurately, type of care given. Must be able to communicate information to supervisor and co-workers. May need to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary. Must be familiar with equipment used to move patients, take vital signs and document. Knowledge in the use of cleaning/sterilization/disinfection of equipment and instrumentation utilized in the clinical operating room setting. BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
