Naples Comprehensive Health - NCH in Naples, FL is seeking a Unit Aide to support the nursing team by transporting patients, assisting with positioning, and stocking supplies in the Operating Room North Naples. This full-time, 8-hour day role requires a high school diploma or GED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

You will help clean and prepare suites, ensure patient safety, and assist with various perioperative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Basic computer literacy to operate a PC.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients safely to procedural area and pre-op areas, identifying by armband and reporting delays to the charge nurse.
• Cleans and cleans suites between cases, restores furniture to proper position, and cleans specialized surgical equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
• Stock supplies in sub-sterile and scrub areas; maintain par levels and reorder supplies as assigned.
• Applies standard precautions and safely disposes of bio-waste after each procedure.
• Responds to peri-operative pages; runs errands to other departments and co-signs Blood Bank forms as needed.
• Assists with patient positioning/moving in the OR under nursing direction.
• Assists with housekeeping duties to maintain department cleanliness and order.
• Returns equipment to appropriate area after use and restocks as needed (including IV fluids).
• Identifies correct specimens and documentation for frozen sections, Microbiology, and Cytology before transport.
• Cleans and makes up patient stretchers and beds; maintains organized supply closets per regulatory standards.
• Washes schedule boards and keeps hallways clear.
• Meets and exceeds patient and customer expectations and supports budget goals.

Job Summary

The Unit Aide provides support for the nursing staff by providing transport of patients, positioning assistance, running errands as needed, between case room, cleaning, and stocking of supplies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

• Transports patients safely to procedural area and/or pre-op areas. Correctly identifies patient by armband and reports any delays in transport immediately to charge nurse.
• Demonstrates proper, through and timely cleaning of suites between cases. Restores furniture to proper position. Cleans specialized surgical equipment, before and after procedure following the manufacturer’s guidelines. Cleans Physiologic monitoring equipment and returns to ready state for next Patient.
• Stock supplies in sub-sterile areas and scrub areas. Maintains par level and reorders specialty supplies as assigned.
• Applies principles of standard precautions at all times. Safely solidifies and disposes of blood and other bio-waste after each procedure.
• Responds promptly to all pages from peri-operative areas. Runs errands to other departments in a timely manner. Will co-sign Blood release form in Blood Bank after verification of name date of birth and blood ID number. Transports blood to appropriate suite and validates correct Patient with RN.
• Assists with patient positioning/moving in the OR under direction of nursing staff.
• Assists with housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and order in the department.
• Returns equipment to appropriate area after use.
• Restock supplies in the department as needed, this is to include IV fluids.
• Identify correct specimen and documentation for all frozen sections, Microbiology and Cytology specimens before transport.
• Cleans and makes up patient stretchers and beds as needed.
• Maintains housecleaning closet and surgical-sub sterile area in and organized manner consistent with all regulatory compliance standards.
• Washes schedule board strips.
• Utilizes free time to wipe down equipment and keep hallways clear.
• Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.
• Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
• Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

• Minimum of High School or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
