Job summary

A leading construction firm is seeking a Union Operating Engineer to operate heavy construction equipment across various project sites. Responsibilities include performing equipment inspections, maintaining safety standards, and following project plans. Candidates must have current IUOE union membership or the ability to obtain, along with relevant experience. This position requires reliability and competence in a physically demanding work environment. Competitive rates are provided per union agreements.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass required DOT/PHMSA drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, directional drills, back-hoes, and loaders.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and union requirements.

Skills

Current IUOE union membership or ability to obtain
Experience operating relevant heavy equipment
Ability to pass required DOT/PHMSA drug and alcohol testing
Knowledge of construction safety standards and procedures
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Reliable transportation to job sites

Union Operating Engineer (IUOE)

Reports to: Foreman

Location: Various Project Sites

FLSA: Union

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Job Foreman, the Union Operating Engineer will be responsible to safely and efficiently operate heavy construction equipment on infrastructure and civil construction projects. This position requires adherence to all safety standards, union agreements, and jobsite requirements. All efforts should be done in alignment with the strategic vision of the company, and they are intended to support our continued commitment to the highest level of ethics, integrity, and excellence in all aspects of the company's operations.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, Horizontal directional drills, back-hoes, loaders, skid loaders, and other construction machinery
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
  • Follow project plans, grade stakes, and direction from supervisors
  • Work safely around crews, utilities, and the public
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and union requirements
Skills Required:
  • Current IUOE union membership or ability to obtain
  • Experience operating relevant heavy equipment
  • Ability to pass required DOT/PHMSA drug and alcohol testing
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Reliable transportation to job sites
  • CDL is a plus and compensated at additional rates per union agreement
