Job summary

Medxcel seeks an experienced maintenance technician to operate and repair boilers, chillers, pumps and related equipment at Macomb Oakland Hospital in Warren, MI, under the Director’s supervision. You will perform inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs to keep the facility running smoothly.

Requires at least two years of institutional maintenance experience, a High School diploma or equivalent, and a preferred High Pressure Boiler Operator's license. Safety and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years’ maintenance repair experience in institutional or commercial setting required.
• High Pressure Boiler Operator's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates boilers and related equipment in accordance with hospital operating procedures.
• Performs routine inspections of boilers, pipelines and operating equipment for leaks or defects and repairs as required.
• Performs general maintenance tasks including plumbing, lighting, troubleshooting TVs, hot and cold calls, and other tasks as assigned.
• Performs preventive maintenance tasks including oil changes on pumps and compressors, filter changes on AHUs, etc.
• Observes meters and pressure gauges and listens to sounds of operating equipment to detect malfunctioning units.

Job description

Working under supervision of the Director, operates and repairs boilers, chillers, pumps, piping and associated equipment. Carries pager and SpectraLink telephone and responds to requests for general maintenance and repairs throughout the facility.

This position is located at Macomb Oakland Hospital, Warren, MI.

Responsibilities

• Operates boilers and related equipment in accordance with hospital operating procedures.
• Performs routine inspections of boilers, pipelines and operating equipment for steam, water, air and fuel leaks or defective parts and makes repairs as required.
• Performs general maintenance tasks as requested including plunging and snaking drains, changing lights and filters, troubleshooting TVs, hot and cold calls, and other tasks as assigned.
• Performs preventive maintenance tasks including oil changes on pumps and compressors, filter changes on AHUs, etc.
• Observes meters and pressure gauges and listens to sounds of operating equipment to detect malfunctioning units.
• Cleans boilers and related equipment.
• Repairs boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms, water columns and auxiliary machines such as pumps and draft fans.
• Obtains replacement parts from storage or notifies Facility Services management of their need for purchasing the parts.
• Notifies Facility Services management when the physical plant is in need of repair requiring outside services.

Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Specialized shop courses from a trade school or community college or equivalent work experience - required.

License/Certification

• High Pressure Boiler Operator's license -preferred.

Experience

• At least two years’ experience in maintenance repair work in an institutional or commercial setting - required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Numerical ability is required to perform arithmetic calculations when measuring and repairing equipment.
• Motor coordination and manual dexterity are required when working with hand tools and when lubricating and adjusting parts.
• Must be able to make repairs meeting standards and limits set by state and city codes.
• Color discrimination is required to detect signal lights indicating malfunctions.
• Must be able to detect auditory warning signals for equipment malfunctions.
• Must be able to perform assigned tasks with little or no direct supervision.
• Must be able to understand water chemical procedures.
• May be required to lift equipment, materials and tools.
• Requires climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.
• Participate in a collaborative identification and reporting.
