Job Description
The Uniform Tailor responsibilities include, but are not limited to the mending of deficiencies either in the employee uniforms or with other garments or linens used on the premises.
- Assist guests with their sewing/tailoring needs.
- Measure and tailor uniforms for all new colleagues.
- Maintain and upkeep the uniforms for over 650 employees.
- Make needed alterations to uniforms on an ongoing basis.
- Fit, alter, and hem different garments independently of the type of linen.
- Inspect and repair drapes, linens, and other textiles used in the hotel.
- Create sewn pieces for use in operating departments.
- Keep an organized workspace to ensure all uniforms are scheduled for periodic check‑ups.
- Work harmoniously and professionally with colleagues and supervisors.
- Assist and support the Laundry and Uniform operations as needed.
- Assist with any project assigned by management.
- Maintain an excellent relationship with all departments.
- Maintain excellent communication within the Laundry department as well as with all other departments.
- Have full knowledge of the hotel’s emergency procedures.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in meetings.
Rate of Pay: $21.45/hour USD
Qualifications
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Previous experience of three years or more is a plus.
- Luxury hotel experience a plus.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Communicate well both verbally and written.
- Reading and counting proficiency.
- Advanced knowledge of sewing.
- Ability to work with different stitching, fabrics, and sewing machines.
- Knowledge of the differences between lining, underlining, and interlining; of all possible fabrics and when to use them; of cutting patterns and pieces; creation of solid seams that are well hidden; prevention of wrinkling; extension of garment wear; and handling delicate fabrics such as silk and cashmere.
- Distinguish various priorities relative to guests and employees.
- Work cooperatively with others to deliver attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow‑through, courtesy, and minimal supervision.
- Maintain minimum skill levels to support a safe work environment per OSHA regulations.
- Flexible hours to meet the demands of a 24‑hour operation.
- Demonstrate high quality craftsmanship.
- High School graduate or equivalent is preferred.
- Excellent team spirit.
- Handle many conflicting priorities simultaneously.
- Work well under pressure.
