UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE TECHNICIAN III

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The ability to support, without direction, the testing/training ranges activities located in numerous geographical locations on the Eglin Test/Training Complex including Santa Rosa Island and performing minor repairs of training range infrastructures and training apparatuses. Functions may include performing pre-inspections, during inspections and post inspections for range users and training units; assisting test customers; inspecting range facilities and training apparatuses; gathering range/training data; generating reports; inspecting vehicles; performing housekeeping; other duties as assigned. Works closely with the government range representative as well as AFSOC customers. Attends required meetings associated with AFSOC support and company objectives. Work is spread over the entire ETTC complex to include Santa Rosa Island. Responsible for understanding capabilities of SRI Sites and providing customers with information to help with site selection. Responsible for ensuring scheduled training support is carried out, and range inspections are provided IAW AFSOC training schedules. Ensure daily reports are generated and provided to the supervisor. Provides input for developing procedures and training materials.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Must have outstanding knowledge in recognizing small arms munition, expended and unexpended explosive devices such as fuses, solid propellants, pyrotechnics. Experience with E-OMS AFSOC training ranges inspection procedures and maintaining training infrastructure/ranges is a plus.
  • Knowledge of munitions utilized on the AFSOC training ranges is a plus.
  • Experience with utilizing Eglin CSE is required.
  • Experience developing and implementing procedures is a plus.
  • Experience traversing the Eglin ranges, day and night, without a map is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in proper range access procedures is required.
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft Office Products is a plus.
  • Must be able to provide verbal briefings and establish/maintain good rapport with customers.
  • Will assist in range inspection operations and minor maintenance of AFSOC training ranges.
  • May be required to locate subsurface UXO using specialized equipment.
  • Exercises independent judgment directly reporting to the site supervisor.
Job Requirements

OTHER DUTIES: Experience in MEC clearance operations and will have combined active duty military EOD, contractor UXO experience. Must be able to fully perform all functions enumerated for UXO Sweep Personnel, UXO Technicians I and II. The UXO Technician III is required to perform the following functions: Overseeing and performing on‑site disposal of MEC; preparing explosives storage plans in accordance with all applicable guidance; preparing required MEC administrative reports; preparing SOPs for on‑site MEC operations; performing risk hazard analyses; conducting daily site safety briefings; and supervising the conduct of all on‑site evolutions directly related to MEC operations. Other functions require housekeeping and other job‑related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be an ordnance school graduate and have six years applicable experience. The Unexploded Ordnance Specialists specializing in the preparation of explosive charges will be required to have technical/military training and six years’ experience in conducting explosive processing/loading operations in a research and development environment. Must be able to use laboratory scales, machinery and other instruments as needed. All unexploded ordnance specialists must be knowledgeable in the areas of chemical and/or material capability to ensure that munitions storage requirements are adequately established. In-depth knowledge of aircraft, weapons, munitions, ammunition and other ordnance used by AFSOC and SOF is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Supports ETTC operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. May be required to operate forklifts and general‑purpose vehicles. May be required to obtain and maintain a Class “A” CDL and training to meet CFR 49/DOT requirements for storage and transporting hazardous materials/explosives. Must have an outstanding knowledge of explosive devices, fuses, solid propellants, pyrotechnics, and munitions. May provide research and development level support in preparing explosive charges from raw materials. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed both inside and outside under a variety of environmental conditions, subjected to noise, fumes, and dirt from explosions and other operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and move heavy items. May be required to ascend/descend multiple stairs to perform work related duties.
