Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking an Underwriting Support Specialist to execute defined performance goals within the Specialty Underwriting Services Department. You will handle rating, pricing documentation, and ensure accuracy across multiple policy and rating systems while supporting Underwriting teams.

The role requires a high school diploma (associate or bachelor’s preferred) and 2 years in insurance, with strong Excel/Outlook skills and a detail-oriented, team-driven approach.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years of insurance industry experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data-entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute performance goals set by Underwriting Services Supervisor/Manager.
  • Maintain accurate rating/pricing documentation in the document management system.
  • Ensure accuracy of input in all systems and verify required files are on record.
  • Apply knowledge of rate, rules, and forms for lines of business.
  • Monitor and process incoming work within underwriting support workflows.
  • Support team service levels and adhere to productivity/accuracy standards.

Underwriting Support Specialist

The Underwriting Support Specialist is responsible for executing the prescribed Performance Goals outlined by the Underwriting Services Supervisor or Manager within the Specialty Underwriting Services Department. Performance Goals to articulate productivity and accuracy standards for Underwriting Support Specialist Underwriting Support Rating for new and renewal business in addition to, pre-renewal setups, processing post-transactions, and tasks for assigned product lines that support Underwriting groups in multiple policy and rating systems within the set department or compliance standards. Accountable for accurate rating/pricing documentation in document management system. Ensure accuracy of information input into all appropriate systems and verify that all necessary documentation is on file. Basic knowledge of rate, rules, and forms for lines of business and product lines supported. Monitor and process incoming work within Underwriting Support task workflows Understanding and expertise to execute on assigned Performance Goals via following prescribed training guidelines Adhere to prescribed productivity standards Adhere to prescribed accuracy standards Contribute to team meeting service level standards set forth by department leadership Maintain a professional working relationship with colleagues at Markel

Education

Key Experience & Skills

Location and Hours

Pay Information

The hourly rate offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average hourly range for the Underwriting Support Specialist is $21.78/hr- $29.95/hr with 5% incentive.
