Job summary

Zurich North America is hiring an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property. The role is based in Chicago, Atlanta, or New York with a hybrid schedule and in-office presence three days per week to meet with agents and brokers.

You will analyze, underwrite, and price new and renewal business, working with national wholesalers to grow profitability while following The Zurich Way of Underwriting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years in underwriting/market facing area.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years in claims/underwriting support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ year in underwriting/market facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years in claims/underwriting support area.
• Knowledge of line of business and applicable regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a customer industry advocate, improving the customer experience.
• Evaluate exposure, assess risk, and price with a disciplined approach.
• Use risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Perform market facing and production within the E&S Standard Property group.

Job description

Zurich is currently looking to hire an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property to join our team! We are open to candidates working out of one of the following locations: Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, or New York City. While this position will be based out of one of these locations, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

The E&S Property Underwriter will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, regularly interacting and facing the market, under limited supervision, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers. In this role you will be working with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability.

This role will be filled at either an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Executive Underwriter Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience in E&S Property Underwriting.
• Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office skills.

The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $165,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000.00 - $125,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00, with Global Specialties Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%.
