Job summary

Zurich North America is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Wholesale Financial Lines team. This role focuses on the wholesale broker channel and may be based in New York or Chicago, with hybrid work arrangements.

You will underwrite and analyze financial institution risks, contribute to product development, and collaborate across lines of business to grow a portfolio.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years underwriting or market facing experience, or 6+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and related experience.
• Knowledge of lines of business, regulatory guidelines, and time restraints for quotes.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and analyze financial institution new and renewal policies.
• Market-facing work with wholesale brokers and portfolio management.
• Administer underwriting rules and rating guidelines in accordance with laws and Zurich standards.
• Manage a portfolio of accounts and develop a pipeline of business.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Zurich to cross-sell and grow business.

Job description

Zurich is currently looking to hire an experienced Underwriter to join our Wholesale Financial Lines team! This position is dedicated to the wholesale broker channel and presents a great opportunity to join our Financial Institution team in one of the following office locations: New York, or Chicago!

In this role, you will underwrite and perform financial analysis across financial institution risks. The position will have technical, transactional and market facing responsibilities; and it will also make contributions in the areas of product/proposition development, marketing, fulfillment, and portfolio management.

Responsibilities include:

• Generating, underwriting, and analyzing financial institution new and renewal policies.
• Market facing and production with wholesale brokers.
• Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules.
• Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
• Managing a portfolio of accounts and developing a pipeline of business.
• Collaborating and cross selling with other stakeholders and lines of business within Zurich.

This role will be filled at either an Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Underwriting Specialist Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Executive Underwriter Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Underwriting experience with E&O and Cyber products
• Established wholesale broker relationships in targeted region
• Service oriented and responsive
• Strong negotiation skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Microsoft Office skills

The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $165,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000.00 - $125,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00, with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%.
