Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Insurance terminology.
  • Typing proficiency (35 wpm minimum).
  • Excellent written, verbal and client-facing communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for customer inquiries during the account life cycle.
  • Clearance and set up of electronic files, including filing. Prequalify risks per underwriting guidelines.
  • Generate, edit and send out a variety of correspondence on behalf of the Underwriters (e.g., declination letters, quote follow ups).
  • Respond to client phone calls and emails regarding the products offered.
  • Review and issue policies within authority level.
  • Review and approve tasks within authority level.

DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking a Underwriting Assistant • Classification: Non-exempt/Full-time • Reports to: Operations Supervisor • Travel: 0-10% • Hourly Rate: $24.00-32.00/hr. Location: San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL, Hybrid

Dual North America is seeking a Underwriting Assistant to support the Underwriting department. At DUAL, the Underwriting Operations team supports the underwriting function by streamlining workflows, managing data accuracy, and ensuring operational efficiency. The team plays a critical role in enabling underwriters to focus on risk evaluation while maintaining compliance and delivering timely service to clients and partners.

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support underwriters through a variety of administrative and data processing tasks, including gathering documentation, entering information into systems, and managing workflows. You’ll help ensure policies are processed efficiently, submissions are handled in a timely manner, and operational tasks run smoothly across the underwriting team.

Role responsibilities
  • First point of contact for customer inquiries during the account life cycle

  • Generate, edit and send out a variety of correspondence on behalf of the Underwriters. Ex: Declination letters, quote follow ups, subjectivity reminders
  • Respond to client phone calls and emails, which requires the ability to understand the products offered
  • Review and issue policies within authority level
  • Review and approve task within authority level
  • Order, review, and follow up on inspections as needed
  • Follow up for carrier subjectivities
  • Issue Notices and handle mailings as needed
  • Issue endorsements and cancellations/reinstatements according to established underwriting guidelines within required timeframes
  • Other related clerical and administrative duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field (i.e., Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, etc.) preferred
  • Working knowledge of Insurance terminology
  • Typing proficiency (35 wpm minimum)
  • Excellent written, verbal and client-facing communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, with occasional movement in the office to access cabinets and equipment.
