Job summary

American International Group (AIG) is hiring an Underwriter I for Financial Lines in the Lenexa area. You will underwrite under general supervision, issue quotes and policies, and connect with brokers and clients while maintaining compliance and profitability.

The role emphasizes developing risk understanding, pricing decisions and collaboration with senior underwriters. You will build a pipeline, handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and grow technical expertise in Financial Lines

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of underwriting or relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment and collaborate with colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites Financial Lines products under supervision, issuing quotes and policies.
  • Evaluates, prioritizes and selects submissions to be underwritten.
  • Identifies risk exposures, claims experience and controls.
  • Analyzes claims and quantifies losses to support pricing decisions.
  • Ensures files and services standards and compliance guidelines are met.
  • Sells and negotiates to achieve profitability and meets customer needs.
  • Develops and maintains a submission pipeline to support production goals.
  • Provides superior service to brokers and clients and communicates risk appetite.

These individuals will analyze information and have the opportunity to connect with clients and brokers.Evaluating, prioritizing and selecting submissions to be underwritten.Identifying risk exposures, special or common hazards, claims experience and appropriate controls.Analyzing claims and quantifying losses.Adhering to guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks.Ensuring underwriting files and services standards and compliance guidelines are adhered to on assigned accounts.Offering coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.Capturing market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts .Begin demonstrating technical expertise with product(s) in the Financial Lines portfolio.Demonstrating strong business acumen, financial and analytical skills, and critical thinking skills which lead to confident decision making and judgment.Demonstrating success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships.Multi-tasking, prioritizing and time management skills.Appropriately balancing changing priorities based upon underwriting needs and performing within time constraints with a high volume of work.Working with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.Selling and negotiating to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company.Making presentations and communicating risk appetite and Financial Lines value proposition articulately to brokers and clients.Contributing to development of producer strategies.Developing and maintaining a submission pipeline sufficient to achieve overall production and business mix objective.Providing superior customer service to brokers and clients (internal & external).Takes initiative on projects and assignments, seeks alternate solutions when necessary.What you will need to succeed1+ years of underwriting or relevant professional experienceBachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent professional experience.For Management Liability positions, a working knowledge of financial statements and analysis.Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions, especially regarding technical aspects.Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.Ready to take your career to the next level?
