Job summary

Argo Group in the United States is seeking a production underwriter for marketing, underwriting and processing assigned lines of business. This is an on-site, 100% in-office position requiring presence at an office during normal hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three-plus years related insurance experience
• Three years underwriting experience with authority, preferably in FI lines
• Proven track record of driving profitable growth
• Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Demonstrates negotiation ability and strong communication skills
• Earlier insurance education work, IIA/CPCU designation preferred
• Detail oriented with initiative and ability to work independently
• Excellent analytical skills
• Ability to travel

Job Description

This is a production underwriting position responsible for marketing, underwriting and processing assigned lines of business.

This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours.

Essential Responsibilities

• Review and price policies to verify acceptability based upon company underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.
• Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
• Interact in person, via email, and by phone with brokers to obtain further risk‑specific details, negotiate terms and pricing, and explain company positions.
• Manage assigned portfolio in underwriting territory, including the performance (GWP, loss ratio) of assigned brokers.
• Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports/dashboards.
• Complete underwriting analysis and maintain complete underwriting file.
• Resolve audit disputes within assigned territory.
• Review state laws, including cancellation and non‑renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within the state.
• Participate in educational sessions within the department.

Qualifications / Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree and three-plus years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education
• Three years underwriting experience with authority, preferably in FI lines
• Proven track record of driving profitable growth
• Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU designation preferred
• Detail oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment
• Excellent analytical skills
• Ability to travel

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

• Richmond & Omaha Pay Range $74,052 - $121,992
• Chicago Houston & Albany Pay Range $$81,294 - $134,232
• Los Angeles & New York City Pay Range $88,842 - $146,472
