Canopius is seeking an experienced underwriter to help build an Equine & Livestock multi-platform offering. The role focuses on underwriting mortality and liability risks under established authority, while developing relationships with brokers and clients to position Canopius as a preferred market in the US.

Job Description

The Role

Our vision is to build an Equine and Livestock multi-platform offering recognised as a market leader, providing a broad range of products to the sector, as well as providing superior capacity, value, and service to our customers.

A team of underwriters will underwrite Equine & Livestock risks, as directed by the Head of Equine & Livestock to meet the requirements of the business plans and the strategic targets for premium income, profitability and return on capital as set out by the Board.

Responsibilities

To underwrite Equine & Livestock mortality and liability business in accordance with the Company’s Business Plan and within the terms of the underwriting authority.

• Develop and maintain good working relationships with brokers and clients to establish Canopius as a preferred market for Equine & Livestock mortality and liability business.
• To research and develop new business opportunities for the company.
• Ensure that there is a highly effective working relationship with other underwriting and support units within Canopius to maximize efficient use of internal company resource to support business activities.
• To ensure that the business written is controlled effectively taking appropriate corrective action on poorly performance business to meet targets and ensure that business written complies with all relevant regulatory standards.
• To ensure that all business written complies with Canopius internal policies, procedures and controls and that these are understood and adhered to by the team.
• To ensure that business is only accepted through intermediaries and cover holders approved by Canopius in accordance with internal procedures.
• To ensure that complete and accurate underwriting records are maintained.
• To promote a culture where client's needs are placed at the heart of underwriting decision-making and business is conducted in a manner that meets Canopius internal standards.
• To assist with development of Junior Underwriting staff.
• To staff ensure that the workplace environment is fair, equitable, collaborative, supportive, and respectful and one which encourages and increases the participation and contribution of all employees, irrespective of difference.
• And other ad hoc duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

• Successful and profitable track record.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on data and risk analysis and ability to make a positive impact on the long-term success of the overall business in planning, organization and development.
• Product development.
• Good communicator, both verbally and written.
• Good computer skills including MS office.
• Working knowledge of the US market.
• Able to demonstrate Integrity and Openness; Accountability; Community Involvement; Diversity & Inclusion; Teamwork; Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Salary Range: $150,00 - $200,000
