Job summary

Actalent is seeking a CAD Designer I for its underground utility distribution program in Richmond, VA. You will draft precise plat exhibits using AutoCAD for underground and overhead easements, verify parcel details, and ensure designs meet utility standards.

The role blends office drafting with field data collection and client interaction to support grid resiliency goals. You will collaborate with design teams, perform QA checks, and use AUD and GIS tools to produce field-ready deliverables for

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and preparing design drawings.
  • Schooling or professional experience in drafting or design related to infrastructure or utilities is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control on work products.
  • Ability to produce field-ready deliverables for engineers and crews.
  • Comfort with field work and interacting with customers for data collection.
  • Familiarity with AUD or willingness to learn; basic GIS knowledge helpful.
  • Interest in energy/utility industry and grid resiliency initiatives.
  • Ability to meet client badging and drug screening requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with right-of-way and design teams to produce plat exhibits for easements.
  • Review scope and draft necessary easements along proposed routes.
  • Verify accuracy of drawings: titles, addresses, parcel numbers.
  • Perform QC checks and complete review checklists before approval.
  • Submit drawings for supervisor review and incorporate feedback.
  • Support distribution design with understanding of infrastructure layouts and safety.
  • Produce deliverables for planning, permitting, and field installation.
  • Conduct field work to collect data and confirm site conditions.
  • Utilize AUD and GIS tools to support electric distribution design.
