Protecnium is seeking an Underground Superintendent to lead daily field supervision on a major subway and underground infrastructure project in the New York metropolitan area. This on-site role oversees construction activities and coordinates with foremen, crews, and subcontractors.

The position involves managing drilling, blasting, mucking, scaling, shotcrete, and ground-support installation, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance for a two-year assignment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily execution of conventional underground excavation works.
• Coordinate field activities involving station caverns, mined tunnels, shafts, and associated underground structures.
• Directly supervise foremen, union crews, subcontractors, and underground equipment.
• Coordinate drilling, blasting, mucking, scaling, staged excavation, shotcrete, and ground-support installation.
• Organize daily and weekly activities, work shifts, manpower, and equipment allocation.
• Monitor excavation progress and ground conditions and ensure temporary support is installed in the correct sequence.
• Coordinate survey and quality inspections and report unexpected geological conditions or construction issues.
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and coordinate blasting operations and access restrictions.
• Maintain accurate daily production records and manage interfaces with other underground activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, schedule, and production requirements.

We are currently looking for an Underground Superintendent to join our team for a major subway and underground infrastructure project in the New York metropolitan area, USA (on-site position).

• Project: Major Subway Tunnel and Underground Infrastructure Works.
• Estimated duration of the position: 2 years.
• In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.

Summary

The Underground Superintendent will be responsible for the daily field supervision and execution of conventional underground excavation works, including station caverns, mined tunnels, shafts, and associated underground structures.

The role will directly supervise foremen, union crews, subcontractors, and equipment involved in drilling, blasting, mucking, scaling, staged excavation, shotcrete application, and ground-support installation.

• Directly supervise foremen, union crews, subcontractors, and underground equipment.
• Coordinate drilling, blasting, mucking, scaling, staged excavation, shotcrete, and ground-support installation.
