Job summary

Peabody Energy is hiring an Underground Mechanic for the Gateway North Mine in Coulterville, IL. The role involves mechanical and hydraulic repairs on underground equipment and maintaining MSHA-permissible condition.

The position operates on a rotating 3-shift schedule (midnights, afternoons, days) with potential weekend/holiday work. Benefits include 401(k) matching, medical, dental, and vision plans, with PTO eligibility from day one.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year underground mining experience.
• Knowledge of State and Federal mining regulations for underground mining.
• Demonstrated welding and fabrication skills.
• Experience operating, repairing, and troubleshooting section and outby equipment (continuous miners, battery haulage, feeders, scoops, roof bolters).
• Ability to troubleshoot from blueprints and service manuals.
• Underground miner license or face papers in the state of work.
• High school diploma or GED; trade certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and hydraulic repairs of underground mining equipment.
• Maintain underground equipment in permissible condition per MSHA.
• Complete required reports and records; perform scheduled maintenance.
• Diagnose faults or breakdowns and estimate time/materials.
• Ensure tool and work area are kept clean and safe.
• Support Peabody's Mission and Values and safety culture.
