Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Laborer/Groundman to support aerial and underground construction projects. You will perform general labor, assist with fiber blowing and conduit installation, and read designs and maps to aid site work.

The role requires safety discipline, physical stamina to lift up to 70 lbs, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A valid driver’s license and climbing certification are preferred, along with knowledge of RF and Fiber networks.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read maps, drawings and diagrams for the project build process.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Climbing certification or related experience is preferred.
  • Practical working experience in overhead construction for RF and Fiber.
  • Knowledge of overhead Bill of Materials and city/county/state clearance codes.

  • Perform fiber blowing operations and assist in fiber optic cable installation.
  • Conduct general labor on construction sites and conduit placement as directed.
  • Move materials and vehicles as directed by Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Maintain safety procedures and use safety equipment as required.
  • Learn to read and construct from a design schematic or map.

Responsibilities

As a Laborer/Groundman, you are responsible for providing general labor for aerial and underground construction projects. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you're up for the challenge.

  • Be responsible for various manual tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites with the use of hand tools like shovels, rakes, and picks
  • Perform fiber blowing operations as directed, assisting in the installation of fiber optic cable in conduits using fiber-blowing equipment
  • Conduct general labor on construction sites
  • Conduct placement of conduit as directed by Foreman or Supervisor
  • Be involved in map reading and directions
  • Support with trench digging and closing
  • Support with the movement of materials and vehicles as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor
  • Conduct maintenance services as directed by Foreman to include: Cleanup, Wash Vehicles, Landscaping
  • Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment
  • Be involved with vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified
  • Tow various trailers with flatbed trucks
  • Conduct Aerial/Underground work as needed and directed and as trained
  • Troubleshoot RF and Fiber line and/or equipment issues
  • Construct and repair underground RF and Fiber service
  • Learn how to read and construct from a design schematic or map
  • Learn all inventory and equipment required for these projects
  • As applicable, learn and be certified on the use of equipment: Line truck, Bucket truck, Cable Reel equipment, Saws and drills
  • Climb poles with climbing equipment safely
  • Move and relocate RF and Fiber service
  • Be familiar with NESC (National Electrical Safety Commission) safety guidelines

  • Ability to read and understand design schematics and maps
  • Climbing certification or related experience
  • Practical working experience in overhead construction for both RF and Fiber
  • Knowledge of Overhead Bill of Materials
  • You must have City, County, and State clearance code knowledge and related
  • Extensive knowledge of Network architecture and design for both RF and Fiber networks
  • Flagger Certified for field work as needed
  • Excellent verbal, written, phone, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment

Compensation of at $25 per hour, based on the experience.

Additional details
  • Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek
  • Rest and Meal Breaks: You will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws
