Job summary

Sunrise Telecom Inc is seeking an Underground Operator I to safely operate heavy equipment for installing and maintaining underground telecommunications networks. You'll trench, bore, excavate, and place conduit and fiber systems to support construction projects.

Responsibilities include reading site plans, adhering to OSHA and company safety rules, and coordinating with crew members. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and travel to various sites as needed.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience operating underground construction equipment required.
• Telecom/utility construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read construction prints and utility markings.
• DL required; CDL preferred if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as bore machines, mini excavators, backhoes, trenchers.
• Perform safe excavation for fiber, conduit, and utilities.
• Read utility locates, site drawings, and construction plans.
• Ensure safety compliance with OSHA and policies.
• Maintain awareness of existing underground utilities to avoid disruptions.
• Assist with placing conduit, handholes, vaults, and pedestals.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and light maintenance.
• Communicate effectively with crew, supervisors, and project managers.
• Complete required paperwork and job documentation accurately.
• Travel to various job sites as required.
