Job summary

GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance seeks an experienced underground mining operator capable of handling heavy machinery and performing general surface and underground tasks. You will work with rock drills, bolters, loaders, haulers, scalers, and pumps, maintaining safety standards and following regulations.

Applicants should demonstrate physical endurance, ability to work in challenging conditions, and effective communication with supervisors to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Operating heavy machinery
• May require lifting up to 100 pounds and climbing to heights up to 100 feet
• Able to communicate, hear, and use hands to operate controls
• Work in all weather conditions
• Wear underground PPE and follow safety rules
• Comply with state and federal mining regulations
• Receive instructions from Supervisor and use materials/equipment to perform tasks
• Maintain safe work area through inspections and safe work practices
• Operate multiple pieces of powered mining equipment (rock drills, bolters, loaders, haulers, scalers, pumps)
• Clean, adjust and maintain equipment using hand tools
• Identify and perform minor repairs on underground equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Summary

This position requires the ability to perform all types of general underground mining as well as applicable surface mining activities.

Job Duties

• Operating heavy machinery
• May require lifting up to I 00 pounds, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and climbing and working to heights up to 100 feet
• Able to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, or controls Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus
• Able to work in all weather conditions
• Able to wear appropriate and required underground Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Comply with all state and federal mining regulations
• Receives oral or written instructions from Supervisor and effectively utilize required materials and equipment to perform the job
• Maintain safe working area through effective methods of work area inspections and safe work practices; inspection, mechanical & hand scaling, work area clean-up, etc.
• Ability to operate multiple pieces of powered mining equipment such as rock drills, bolters, loaders, haulers, scalers, pumps, etc safely and effectively
• Clean, adjust and maintain equipment, using hand tools if/as needed.
• Uses shovels, cutters, scaling bars, and other hand tools proficiently as part of the mining process
• Ability to identify, maintain and (if applicable) repair minor/general maintenance on underground equipment
• Other duties as assigned
