Position Summary:

The 2027 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program that runs from June 7 – August 13, 2027. The program gives participants the opportunity to learn about the business of basketball, develop critical career skills, and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues (WNBA & G League). In addition to on-the-job experience, interns are invited to participate in a broad array of professional development programming as well as community and social experiences.

The program prioritizes rising seniors, with limited exceptions for graduate students, based on business need.

Interns should reflect excellent academic standing and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, we look for candidates who possess leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities.

More information on the Summer Internship program experience can be found here.

Role Overview:

Selected interns will support areas critical to the overall functioning of the NBA, WNBA & G-League, including Facilities and Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Security, Social Impact & Inclusion, and Social Responsibility. Responsibilities may include project management, market research, analysis, forecasting and planning business outcomes, event support, and communications. Interns in these functions support the day-to-day operations of the league, including internal and external events and projects.

Past interns have worked across a range of departments including:

  • Facilities and Administration, which ensures that the work environment is functional and well-maintained, and is responsible for office renovation design, overseeing equipment repairs and maintenance, and acting as the liaison between the league office and property management.

  • Finance, which serves as a strategic partner to business leaders across the NBA, providing financial stewardship, analytical insight, and decision support to drive performance and advance the League’s strategic priorities. The department supports the League office, NBA teams, and affiliate leagues through expertise in financial planning, accounting, strategic analysis, transactions, investments, and risk management. It includes League Finance, Team & Labor Finance, Controllership, Strategic Finance & Transactions, Global Strategy, NBA Investments, and Risk Management & Insurance, all working together to support growth, operational excellence, and long‑term value creation across the NBA ecosystem.

  • Human Resources, which drives the NBA’s global workforce strategy, including talent acquisition, talent management, employee development, employee relations, compensation, and benefits. Human Resources works to identify candidates that will help drive the league’s strategic direction and business goals, develops programs to aid in employees’ professional development, and implements policies and procedures designed to maintain an employee-friendly workplace. The department also supports the company’s human resources information systems (HRIS) that provide data and reporting to assist in key business decisions.

  • Social Responsibility & Player Programs (SRPP), which leads the NBA’s efforts in social impact, player development and marketing, and community engagement. The department also advances social impact & inclusion, corporate philanthropy, social justice and economic opportunity initiatives across the league and its communities.

These roles require interns to demonstrate a foundational mastery of AI technologies in driving project execution and achieving business objectives.
