Job summary

AdventHealth Altamonte Springs is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our night shift team. You will receive, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments, ensuring accuracy and safety for every case.

This role emphasizes meticulous records, adherence to sterilization standards, and collaboration with operating rooms and nursing units. A strong focus on reliability, equipment handling, and maintaining a clean workflow supports patient care across our hospital campus.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• High School Grad or Equiv required.
• Technical/Vocational School preferred.
• Previous sterile processing technician experience preferred.
• BLS CPR/CRCST/CSPDT certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives soiled and contaminated instruments or equipment from surgery and nursing units.
• Prepares, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment.
• Inspects instruments for damage or malfunction.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization and verifies item quantities.
• Ensures sterilization procedures are performed effectively.
• Maintains records on sterilization and equipment issued to units.
• Assists with supply levels and preparation for surgical cases.
• Keeps work area clean and organized.
• Demonstrates proficiency with equipment and stocking levels.
• Shows dependability to meet department scheduling needs.
• Assumes on-call assignments and pursues professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Receives soiled and contaminated instruments or equipment from surgery, anesthesia, and nursing units.
• Prepares, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment appropriately.
• Inspects all instruments and equipment for damages, malfunction, or unacceptable condition.
• Prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization by verifying correct items and quantities.
• Assures proper sterilization procedures are performed and the effectiveness of the sterilizing process.
• Maintains required records on sterilization and tracks equipment and instruments issued to nursing units.
• Assists with maintaining adequate supply levels and supply preparation for surgical cases.
• Maintains cleanliness and proper order in the work area.
• Demonstrates proficient use of all equipment and knowledge of stocking and par levels for nursing units.
• Shows dependability and flexibility in meeting the scheduling needs of the department.
• Assumes on-call assignments and takes responsibility for personal and professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Work Experience

• Previous sterile processing technician experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) [Preferred]
• OR Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Preferred]
