Job summary

Children’s National Hospital is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to perform high quality diagnostic ultrasound and vascular exams while delivering excellent patient care. The role requires RVT and ARDMS certifications, and at least one year of clinical ultrasound experience.

The position supports the Division of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology at the SZ campus and Rockville site, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and professional development in a busy pediatric environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required and graduate of approved ultrasound program.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical ultrasound experience.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and ARDMS certification required.
  • Proficient knowledge of vascular anatomy, color Doppler, and pulse wave Doppler.

Responsibilities

  • Ultrasound scanning to produce high quality scans with appropriate transducers and settings.
  • Support radiologists with interventional procedures as directed.
  • Perform exams timely and ensure patient data is properly documented.
  • Maintain clean exam rooms and equipment; ensure proper safety procedures.

Who We Are: The Division of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology is located within the hospital (SZ campus) and at the Rockville, Maryland Children s National Imaging (CNI) site. The Division offers imaging services for a complete range of pediatric diseases and conditions. Services provided at the main hospital include general radiography, fluoroscopy, special procedures (interventional), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography, ultrasound, computerized axial tomography, bone densitometry, and magnetic resonance imaging. Services provided at Children's National Imaging (Rockville, Maryland) include general radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computerized axial tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.

What You’ll Do:

The Ultrasound & Vascular Technologist will perform high quality Diagnostic Ultrasound and Vascular exams while providing excellent patient care.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required) AND Graduate of approved program in Ultrasound Technology (Required)
  • Minimum Work Experience: 1 year of clinical Ultrasound experience (Required)
  • Required License/Certifications: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) (Required)
  • A.R.M.D.S (Required)
  • Required Skills/Knowledge: Able to perform all general ultrasound exams as well as a proficient understanding of vascular anatomy, color Doppler, and pulse wave Doppler. Demonstrates working knowledge of all diagnostic ultrasound equipment and related components. Possesses excellent knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and ultrasound pathology and documents such.
Functional Accountabilities:
  • Ultrasound Scanning Produce high quality ultrasound scans via appropriate choice of transducer, scale, focal zones, and gain.
  • Scale.
  • Work independently .
  • Assist radiologists with interventional procedures as directed.
  • Perform all exams in a timely and efficient manner .
  • Quality Control Identify each image with proper and permanent patient data.
  • Follow correct procedures regarding warm-up, use and shut down of equipment.
  • Check paperwork, film jackets and patient charges for accuracy prior to submission and completes RIS assignments immediately following exam.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exams rooms and equipment.
Patient Care
  • Greet patients, introduce self to patient and treat all patients/families in a kind, courteous and professional manner; explain exam to patients/parents; communicate with patient throughout the exam and releases patient/parent with appropriate follow-up info;
  • Ensure room is prepared & stocked prior to start of exam.
  • Make every attempt to meet scheduled appointment times and accommodate stat or add‑on requests.
  • Be cooperative and willing to assist when asked to travel to a CH-affiliated site.
  • Share on call responsibilities, equally , with all ultrasound technologists.
Vascular Skills
  • Teach vascular anatomy and exams to students, new hires and retrain staff as needed.
  • Perform vascular studies as indicated.
  • Ensure consistent quality of vascular exams.
Clinical Safety
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations.
  • Keep acoustic power within acceptable limits.
  • Practice personal radiation safety within the department.
  • Immediately report equipment malfunctions to engineer & complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Assist to train and orientate new technologists within the modality.
Professional Development
  • Maintain A.R.D.M.S. certification which encompasses RVT certification.
  • Biennially update CPR certification.
  • Complete mandatory annual in‑services.
  • Attend seminars and in‑services.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children's National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children's National compensation philosophy.
