Working Environment

• Radiology, CT scan, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, DEXA, and Nuclear Medicine
• Consistently standing, frequently bending, stooping, lifting, pulling heavy objects, and pushing heavy equipment
• Provide direct patient care requiring fine and gross motor skills
• Exposure to blood borne pathogens, radiation, and toxic chemicals possible
• Must take call as needed, work holidays, accept various shift assignments, and work occasional routine days off during vacations, sick, etc.

Responsibilities

Communications

• Keep the Radiology Manager/Supervisor informed on matters important to the well‑being of the Ultrasound department
• Attend 75% of department staff meetings and 100% of mandatory hospital/department in‑services
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA
• Establish rapport with physicians, staff, and other departments
• Inform managers of staffing, performance, physician issues, or patient‑related problems
• Supervise radiology assistants and students as needed
• Communicate competency or proficiency needs and seek training
• Demonstrate cooperative attitude, professionalism, and support hospital values
• Maintain punctuality and reliability in attendance
• Use email to stay updated on organizational information

Skills / Knowledge

• Solid understanding of all ultrasound procedures, anatomy, and equipment operation
• Acquire desired diagnostic images by selecting proper protocol and transducer
• Obtain thorough history and record all pertinent information on worksheets
• Maintain a clean and organized ultrasound room and supplies
• Follow departmental ID and safety policies; wear ID badge
• Document patient information accurately in CPSI and PACS
• Transmit images to PACS for urgent cases and complete verbal call reports
• Review ultrasound results for training and accuracy
• Coordinate schedules, CD burning, film duplication, and other paperwork
• Participate in orientation of new employees and students
• Maintain inventory of supplies and secure medications/contrast
• Report hazards and maintain life support equipment in working order
• Maintain continuing education to meet Kentucky State, ARRT, and ARDMS requirements (6 CEUs annually)

Quality Control & Improvement

• Use quality improvement indicator forms and report equipment errors promptly
• Participate in development and maintenance of protocols and policies
• Assist in continuous quality improvement efforts
• Perform equipment cleaning and Cidex quality controls
• Conduct image verification before sending to PACS
• Provide in‑services to other technologists as requested
• May serve on QI team if requested

Equipment Maintenance & Safety

• Use and care of ultrasound equipment and transducers following safety procedures
• Identify equipment malfunctions and notify vendor
• Know service numbers and procedures for contacting service
• Use RayPax equipment for remote readings
• Check equipment function before patient placement

Patient Care & Satisfaction

• Interpret and enforce hospital policies and procedures (infection control, safety, disaster, personnel, health)
• Participate in performance improvement data collection
• Transport patients safely and return them to bed neatly
• Inform nursing of patient information upon return and follow hand‑off policy
• Sign patient in and out at nurse’s station and bring chart in proper gown
• Perform portable exams as needed
• Provide a private, confidential environment with warmth and attitude
• Perform vital signs and venipuncture as required
• Obtain thorough history, record and enter diagnosis in CPSI
• Explain procedure to patient and family; document on worksheet
• Follow department script for introducing self and key information
• Adapt to age‑appropriate needs for different patients
• Follow sterile technique for invasive procedures and manage supplies
• Implement "TIME OUT" before invasive procedures and document

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED acceptable within 6 months)
• Registered A.R.R.T. (R) and Kentucky State Certified
• Preferred ultrasound training in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, and non‑invasive vascular areas
• Credentialed by ARDMS or actively pursuing registries: ULTRASOUND PHYSICS (SPI), ABDOMEN (AB), OBSTETRICS/GYNECOLOGY (OB/GYN), VASCULAR PHYSICS INSTRUMENTATION (VPI), VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY (VT), BREAST TECHNOLOGY
• CPR certification or to obtain within six months of employment
