Job summary

UMass Memorial Health Ultrasound Department is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in inpatient and outpatient settings under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist.

The role requires ARDMS registration within one year, graduate from an accredited program, minimum one year experience, and ability to maintain patient records and collaborate with radiologists. Competitive on-call schedule; 32-hour week; non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program.
• ARDMS registration in one category within one year of hire date.
• Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.
• Knowledge of Physics and Instrumentation for ARDMS exams.
• Ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting.
• Verbal and written communication skills with patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with patient age, in inpatient or outpatient settings.
• Gather pertinent clinical data and maintain accurate patient records.
• Accurately complete records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly.
• Position and transfer patients appropriately and assist physicians with interventional exams.
• Promptly complete exams, perform QC to images and send exams to PACS for review.
• Assist radiologists with ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
• Follow Universal protocol per hospital policy and procedure.
• Assist in inventory management and arranging supplies.
• Monitor equipment and ensure supplies are available.
• Sterilize probes per policy and procedure.
• Assist with other duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.

Hiring Range: $35.94 - $58.96

Under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist, provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the department. Performs independently within scope of department policies. Clinically works at the direction of a qualified Radiologist.

I. Major Responsibilities:

• 1. Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
• 2. Gather pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
• 3. Accurately completes all records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly.
• 4. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
• 5. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images and sends exams to PACS for review by the radiologist.
• 6. Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures.
• 7. Follow Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
• 8. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
• 9. Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.
• 10. Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure.
• 11. Assists with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

• 1. Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program.
• 2. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date.

Preferred:

• 1. Associate degree

Experience/Skills:

Required:

• 1. Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.
• 2. Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams.
• 3. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results.
• 4. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Preferred:

• Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
