Job summary

Conway Medical Center is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist- PNS (UT) to perform obstetric, gynecologic, and abdominal ultrasound studies. You will operate high-frequency ultrasound equipment, prepare patients, and report preliminary findings to the physician.

Responsibilities include ensuring image quality, using PACS workstations, and potentially floating to other sites as needed. ARDMS/ARRT-S certification and prior sonography experience are preferred; BLS may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and ARDMS or ARRT-S certification required.
• Previous sonography experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform obstetric, gynecologic, abdominal and select vessel ultrasound studies as required.
• Prepare patients for procedures and explain the procedures to patients.
• Report changes in patient condition and provide an oral and written summary of preliminary findings to the physician.
• Evaluate image quality and determine if additional sonograms are indicated.

Position Summary:

The Ultrasound Technologist- PNS (UT) will perform a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to monitor normal fetal development and screen for any potential abnormalities for obstetric patients. For gynecologicial patients, ultrasound is used to assess female organs and structures, and Ultrasound studies for abdominal, small parts and some vessel studies. The UT will perform procedures including but not limited to ultrasound procedures, abdominal studies and Ob-Gyn procedures as required. The UT will utilize accessory equipment such as transducers, printers, and PACS workstations. Other responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, explaining procedures to patients, reporting changes in patient condition to medical staff, providing an oral and written summary of preliminary findings to the physician, evaluating the quality of sonograms and will determine if additional sonograms or ultrasound procedures are indicated.

All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats. Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the main facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include “float” coverage at an alternate facility, department or assignment.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-S) required.

Experience:

• Previous sonography experience strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in physics and one specialty, e.g. Abdomen, Vascular, and OB/GYN, etc.
• Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required.

Special Skills:

• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing and imaging colleagues, physicians, and department heads required.
• Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
• Strong organizational skills required.
• Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement required.
