Summary

The Ultrasound Technician (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional qualified by professional certification and clinical experience to perform ultrasound diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technician includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains awareness of all departmental and operational policies of Altus Community Healthcare (ACH).
  • Assists in the maintenance of all equipment in the department, including cleaning and QA procedures.
  • Explains the ultrasound procedure to patients and answers any questions they may have. Maintains ultrasound equipment and areas in which the procedures take place.
  • Performs high-level disinfection on endocavity probes/transducers when necessary and according to policy and procedure.
  • Performs ultrasounds using technique that ensures the transducer (probe) captures images from each angle and area assessed.
  • Evaluates images for quality and ensures that images of the appropriate area/organ/body part are captured.
  • Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.
  • Maintain patient records and adds notes related to the ultrasound procedure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
  • At least 2 years of ultrasound/sonography experience.
Language / Math / Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.
  • Good communication skills.

Certificate / Licenses
  • Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate.
