Job description

Overview

Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, popliteal, pyloric stenosis and appendicitis studies) and neonatal brains. Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees.
  • Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.
  • Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, pylorus and appendix studies), neonatal brains and Obstetrical studies.
  • Performs Doppler studies of the carotids, abdomen, pelvis, small parts and peripheral vascular.
  • Performs intra‑cavity ultrasound studies (endovaginal and endorectal).
  • Performs localizations for invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance.
  • Schedules patients for sonography and arranges for patients to be prepped.
  • Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance to hospital policy.
  • Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.
  • Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Functions independently with regard to individualizing each exam relative to clinical history. Transports patients to and from Ultrasound as required. Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.
  • Keeps current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic sonography by reading technical journals, participating in in‑service education programs, attending conferences, etc.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Qualifications
  • One (1) year experience performing Ultrasound examinations.
  • New York State License as Ultrasound Technologist.
  • Training in Ultrasound systems.
  • Computer knowledge.
