Job summary

Westchester General Hospital in Florida is seeking a skilled ultrasound technologist to perform two-dimensional ultrasound recordings of internal organs to assist physicians.

You will select equipment, position patients, optimize image quality, document results, and coordinate with the care team while maintaining patient privacy and safety. A graduate program in ultrasound technology and BLS are required; ARDMS preferred.

Qualifications

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

To produce two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs, using ultrasound equipment, for use by physician in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. 1. Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination.
  2. 2. Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
  3. 3. Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test.
  4. 4. Keys test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
  5. 5. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  6. 6. Starts equipment which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
  7. 7. Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record on internal examination.
  8. 8. Discusses test results with supervisor or attending physician.
  9. 9. Demonstrate proper respect, attitude, courtesy, and professionalism and communication skills towards patients, staff, co-workers, doctors, administration personnel.
  10. 10. Performs other assigned duties as required.
  11. 11. May be required to vary shifts and/or weekend rotation as needs of the department dictate.
  12. 12. May include overtime, only if approved by Director.

Physical Demands:

Medium work: Exerting up to 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, up to 1/3 of the time to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree and requires sitting a minimal amount of time.

Environmental Conditions:

Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Hazards:
  • Subject to exposure to diagnostic fluids and agents.
  • Subject to exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents.
  • Subject to hazards of flammable and explosive gases.
Reasoning Development:

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Development:

Algebra: Deal with system of real numbers; linear, quadratic, rational, exponential, logarithmic, angle and circular functions, and inverse functions; related algebraic solution of equations and inequalities; limits and continuity, and probability and statistical inference.

Geometry: Deductive axiomatic geometry, plane and solid; and rectangular coordinates.

General Math: Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportion, mensuration, logarithms, practical algebra, geometric construction, and essentials of trigonometry.

Language Development:
Reading

Read and understand instructions and be able to convey instructions and guidance to subordinates.

Writing

Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar using all parts of speech.

Speaking

Speak with poise, authority, voice control, confidence and respect using correct English in a well-modulated voice.

Specific Academic Preparation

To do this job, you must have the following amount of total education and/or experience:

Education
  • Must be graduate from an accredited program of ultrasound technology.
  • BLS certification.
  • ARDMS license preferred.
Experience and Training

Thorough knowledge of ultrasound technology practices, basic sciences related to mechanical and electrical systems. Minimum one year of experience
