  • Verify patient identity, physician orders, relevant history, pregnancy status when applicable, and examination requirements before beginning a procedure.
  • Explain procedures, answer appropriate questions, provide clear instructions, and protect patient dignity, comfort, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and completeness; repeat images only when clinically necessary and in accordance with radiation-reduction principles.
  • Recognize urgent or unexpected findings and promptly follow established escalation and communication procedures without independently diagnosing the patient.
  • Document examinations accurately in the electronic health record and/or imaging system, including required measurements, annotations, technical notes, and completion status.
  • Transmit images and supporting documentation to the interpreting provider or radiologist and assist with follow-up requests.
  • Maintain examination rooms, supplies, ultrasound probes, detectors, and related equipment according to infection-prevention and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Complete required quality-control checks, report equipment concerns promptly, and coordinate service as directed.
  • Follow applicable policies, accreditation standards, radiation-safety requirements, HIPAA requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support patient flow, scheduling, clinical teamwork, and other duties within training and scope as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of accredited educational programs in diagnostic medical sonography and radiologic technology, or an equivalent combination that meets applicable credentialing and licensure requirements.
  • Current registration or certification in diagnostic medical sonography through ARDMS or an equivalent credentialing organization accepted.
  • Current ARRT certification in Radiography, or an equivalent credential accepted.
  • Current state license or certification required to perform radiography in the work location.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an employer-approved provider.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound and radiographic anatomy, patient positioning, image optimization, infection prevention, and radiation protection.
  • Ability to operate imaging equipment and related clinical information systems safely and accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more years of experience performing both ultrasound and diagnostic radiography in an outpatient, hospital, or medical-office setting.
  • Multiple ARDMS specialty credentials, such as Abdomen or Vascular Technology, based on the services offered.
  • Experience with PACS, RIS, and electronic health record systems.
  • Bilingual communication skills based on patient population needs.
