Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality ultrasound procedures according to exam protocol.
  • Communicate with patients using AIDET; identify service needs and explain tests.
  • Prepare patient and area; position patient and adjust equipment for proper exposure.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; ensure safety and infection-control standards.
  • Document requisitions, patient history, and shielding precautions in the EMR.
  • Maintain imaging records in accordance with department policies and standards.

Shift: Variable 8 hour shifts

On-Call: Every 3-4 weeks, 30 min radius

Requirement: 1 year experience or completed clinical rotations at MCK, preferred experience in General, OB and Vascular Experience

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist, under a Radiologist or physician's supervision, performs ultrasound procedures. They work in ambulatory and hospital settings as requested by a physician or licensed provider. This is for diagnosing disease and injury according to established protocols.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Performs high-quality ultrasound procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilizes AIDET to communicate with patients. Identifies patient service needs. Ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establishes rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family about the test. Assess the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Prepare the patient and area for the procedure. Position the patient, adjust immobilization devices, and move equipment into position. Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and team members by following safety, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation. Reports issues to management or the appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory. Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Obtain, verify, and maintain all relevant documentation. This includes requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies, and procedures.
  • Imaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows. These include PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and BioMed services.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

  • Able to effectively administer first aid and use emergency cart.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Remain professional, review patient satisfaction scores, and develop action plans when needed.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for caring for newborns, pediatric, young adults, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Able to serve as trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Able to take call, if required.

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - ARRT-BS Breast Sonography (ARRT-BS), ARRT-S Sonography (ARRT-S), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB), Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR), Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB), Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT): Registered in one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers ARDMS (OB/GYN) or (AB) or (BR) or (MSK) or (RVT) OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT(S) or (BS) OR the Cardio Credentialing Intl. CCI (RVS).
