Job summary

Virtua is seeking a per diem Ultrasound Technologist to perform high-quality ultrasound examinations across patient populations in accordance with approved techniques and radiologist protocols. A one-year commitment is noted with a sign-on bonus of $500 and on-call weekend responsibilities, including at least one holiday per year.

Qualifications

• 1 to 2 years of experience preferred in abdominal, obstetrical, small parts, and vascular imaging.
• Must be ARDMS or ARRT registered; new grads may be hired per ACR guidelines with board-eligibility within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Consistently perform high quality Ultrasound studies according to radiologists' protocols.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Ultrasound equipment.
• Obtain pertinent medical history, review prior exams, and verify physician orders.
• Prepare room for biopsy exams and handle equipment for biopsy procedures.
• Assist with biopsies and intra-operative biopsy procedures as needed.
• Respond to schedule changes and on-call shifts per Virtua Health policy.
• Demonstrate proper use of RIS and hospital systems and maintain patient confidentiality.

New to Virtua hires are eligible for sign on bonus of $500

Summary

Performs high quality Ultrasound examinations in accordance with approved techniques and protocols on an as needed/ per diem basis.

Supports Virtua Health Mission & Vision Statements and adheres to Virtua Health’s Policies and Procedures.

Position Responsibilities

• Consistently performs high quality Ultrasound studies for our various patient populations according to protocols established by Radiologists. Demonstrate ability to recognize and accurately document pathology identified in scans.


• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Ultrasound equipment.


• Performs a preliminary evaluation for each patient. Obtains pertinent medical history prior to exam, obtains previous examinations and reports. Reviews and verifies physician’s orders.


• Prepares room as needed for biopsy exams. Familiar with all equipment utilized for biopsy exam.


• Assists and scans, as needed, during biopsy procedure. Assists in inter-operative biopsy procedures and responds to OR in timely manner.


• Responds to changes in the work schedule. Covers all shifts on a rotational basis and responds immediately on call when contacted by Communications and arrives within the appropriate time established by Virtua Health policy.


• Demonstrates appropriate and effective use of RIS and hospital-based computer programs and adheres to all policies and practices regarding confidentiality of all electronic communications.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required

1 to 2 years of experience preferred in abdominal, obstetrical, small parts, and vascular imaging.

Required Education

Formal education in Diagnostic Ultrasound program.

Training/Certifications/Licensure

Must be registered in one of the following: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). New Graduates hired prior to 10/1/2025 may be hired following ACR guidelines with the expectation of passing their boards within 12 months.
