Job summary

Mizell Memorial Hospital is seeking an Ultrasound Tech to provide high quality patient care in Radiology. You will perform a wide variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures independently and assist physicians as needed, while preparing patients and maintaining equipment.

Radiology team collaboration, after-hours call availability, and reporting duties are part of the role. ARDMS eligibility or certification is preferred; two years of ultrasound experience desired.

  • Schedule procedures and support report and film filing; provide after-hours call as needed.

Description

The Ultrasound Tech is responsible for providing high quality patient care and displaying good skills in assessment. He/She performs a wide variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures in Radiology Department. Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision by the chief technologist. Operates a variety of types/models of diagnostic ultrasound equipment including but not limited to multi-formatted cameras, laser images, video recorders/printers and radiographic processors. Takes pertinent clinical histories on all patients. Prepares patients for various ultrasound exams, performs procedures, cleans procedure room/equipment and prepares for next patient. Assists physicians/radiologists in performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures using ultrasound to guide needle biopsy and surgical techniques. Prepares procedure for interpretation by radiologists. Assists in the scheduling of both inpatient and outpatient procedures. Assists in preparing necessary clerical work on all radiological procedures. Assists in report and film filing. Assists in transporting patients to and from Radiology department. Performs portable ultrasound procedures when necessary. Additionally, he/she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent. Completion of a six (6) month or one (1) year program.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in diagnostic ultrasound. At least six (6) months prior experience is preferred. Must be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or Registry eligible. Prefer sonographer to be registered in at least two (2) areas of specialization (i.e. abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or other nationally recognized registry.

  • Interpersonal skills- including customer relations, grammar, reading, and organizational skills
  • CPR/BLS certification.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write and effectively present information in one-on-one small group situations to patients, providers, or employees
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variable in standardized situations
  • Able to make decisions under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and manage stress, anger, and potential violence of others appropriately.
  • Lives within 30 minutes of Mizell Memorial Hospital and is able to take after hours call as needed

Physical requirements: Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, talk, see, turn, carry, push, handle and write. The degree to which any of these is done depends on the job. This job requires you to reach above head, push/pull 10 lbs, lift/carry up to 100 lbs, and lift from floor and waist level. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
