Job summary

Decatur County Memorial Hospital is seeking a Diagnostic Ultrasound Tech to perform ultrasound examinations per physician orders, ensuring high-quality images while preparing equipment and supplies.

The role requires ARDMS registration or eligibility, two years of radiology training or ultrasound degree, and BLS certification. The position involves non-standard hours and on-call duties, with standing, walking, and occasional heavy lifting typical of the role.

Qualifications

• Must have ARDMS registered or registry eligible.
• BLS certification required.
• Must have two years of technical school in Radiology or a Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients, corroborates clinical history, provides education and explains procedures answering any questions or minimizing fears to obtain desired results and gain cooperation.
• Provides physical and psychological support and positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest respecting patient ability and comfort.
• Selects and operates ultrasound equipment and associated devices to successfully perform procedure. Evaluates images for technical quality assuring proper identification.
• Assists licensed practitioner with interventional procedures, needle localization, aspirations, biopsies, paracentesis and amniocentesis after verifying informed patient consent.
• Orders supplies and performs equipment quality control checks reporting malfunction appropriately.
• Utilizes CPSI and Rad Web Computer system to maintain financial, demographic, and patient information.
• Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reports To:

Director of Radiology

Summary:

Employee’s primary responsibility is to perform diagnostic ultrasound examination as ordered by physician. Strict guidelines and protocols are followed for each procedure to optimize the quality of the procedure. Responsibilities also include preparing the equipment and supplies for the tests.

Work Schedule:

Non-standard work hours. While on-call, must be availalbe within 45 minutes. Able to work more than 40 hours per week.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education

Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school)

Experience

Two to four years related experience

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.

Certificates & Licenses

Must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible. BLS certification required.

Other Requirements

Must have two years of technical school in Radiology or a Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound. This position requires constant standing and walking, as well as, frequent sitting, use of hands and fingers, and pushing and pulling 0-100 lbs.
