Staff Scientist (Imaging) in San Jose, CA is a permanent on-site role focusing on ultrasound imaging performance and transducer optimization across premium systems. You will collaborate with imaging scientists, engineers, and clinical sonographers to push image quality and explore new approaches.

The role requires a PhD (or MS with exceptional experience) in signal processing or related field, strong experimental skills, MATLAB proficiency, and the ability to work independently in a small team.

Qualifications

• PhD in signal processing-based engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related discipline (MS with exceptional relevant experience may also be considered)
• Strong experimental and analytical skills
• Experience with MATLAB or similar signal processing toolboxes
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
• Comfortable collaborating within small technical teams
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills

Responsibilities

• Lead probe-specific optimization of imaging parameters to improve ultrasound image quality across multiple imaging modes (e.g., B-mode, color Doppler)
• Apply expertise in acoustics or related fields to optimize ultrasound transducer performance for clinical imaging applications
• Configure and refine imaging parameters through SQL databases using insights from MATLAB simulations and experiments
• Conduct measurements using imaging phantoms and human subjects in controlled environments
• Partner with imaging scientists, engineers, and in-house clinical sonographers to guide system optimization
• Support refinement of existing transducers based on feedback and contribute to new designs
• Develop imaging performance improvements and explore new imaging capabilities
• Produce technical documentation supporting imaging R&D
