Qualifications

• Licensure/Certification: ARDMS Registry or CCI-RCS; Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound exams and coordinate with departments to ensure timely patient care.
• Routinely question patient before procedures to obtain history and explain the process.
• Maintain and disinfect equipment and probes; report problems promptly.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24-hour Ultrasound Department coverage.
• Adhere to infection control practices and safety protocols.
• Complete accurate data entry for all exams and document patient history and tech initials.

• Clinical skills
• Exhibits working knowledge of all Ultrasound equipment and procedures.
• Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
• Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
• Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
• Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
• Coordinates Ultrasound schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
• Patient/General Safety
• Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
• Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
• Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
• Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
• Adheres to infection control practices.
• Equipment Maintenance
• Routinely cleans equipment and probes and reports problems to service.
• Has service performed monthly PM's on equipment.
• Documentation/Communication
• Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
• Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials.

• Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage of the Ultrasound Department
• Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits.
• Keeps areas well stocked at all times.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of sonography or completion of an ultrasound program.

Licensure/Certification: American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography Registry, Active and unrestricted A.R.D.M.S. certification or CCI-RCS. Basic Life Support.
