Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) to Support QuickCare and Urgent Care Clinics

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking to fill multiple positions (60‑100%) to support QuickCare and Urgent Care clinics at Iowa City (Corridor) and Quad Cities locations.

ARNPs perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services within Walk‑in Clinics. Clinics operate evenings, weekends, and selected holidays and serve patients ranging from newborn to geriatric. Services include X‑rays, IV fluids, stitches, and a multidisciplinary approach to care.

Basic Function and Responsibility

ARNPs exercise autonomy in medical decision‑making, assist in educating healthcare students, and support research endeavors. The position reports to the Medical Director within UI Community Clinics.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide care at QuickCare and Urgent Care Clinics, rotating sites; minimum 6 months of prior Urgent Care experience.
• Obtain medical history and perform physical examinations.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and record medical or surgical problems.
• Perform laboratory and related studies and interpret results.
• Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care.
• Arrange continued care including transfers, follow‑ups, and referrals.
• Perform and screen electrocardiograms, radiography, audiometric and vision screenings, tonometry, and pulmonary function tests.
• Instruct patients on physical and mental health matters.
• Respond to urgent medical problems with appropriate actions.
• Maintain knowledge of resources for patient referrals.
• Order medications and administer drugs.
• Direct other medical personnel in patient care execution.
• Perform duties consistent with physician practice.
• Educate health‑care students and participate in committees.
• Maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

• Education Required: Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field; if the Master’s degree is in another field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
• Required Qualifications:
  • Current board certification (FNP) in a specialty area and licensure as ARNP in Iowa.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
  • Current license to practice as an ARNP in Iowa.
  • Minimum 6 months experience as an ARNP.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice.
  • Ability to manage acutely ill patients of all ages in a high‑functioning unit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to function autonomously while collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet University Driving Policy Standards.
  • Availability to support other clinical locations as needed.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
• Desirable Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of acute patient care ARNP experience in Emergency Department, Urgent Care, Walk‑In Clinic, or Family Medicine.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Previous EPIC experience.
  • Comfort with technology, including video tools, and willingness to learn.

Compensation Details

• Pay Level: 93.
• Starting Salary Minimum: 87,632.
• Starting Salary Maximum: 158,296.
