MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: THE MAIN PURPOSES OF THIS POSITION ARE TO ASSIST BPC DIRECTOR IN DEVELOPING, PLANNING, COORDINATING AND MANAGING THE DAILY OPERATIONS WITHIN THE BENEFITS PAYMENT CONTROL UNIT (INVESTIGATIONS AND OVERPAYMENT AND RECOVERIES SECTIONS) FOR THE DIVISION OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE (DUI) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR (USDOL); WILL DIRECTLY LEAD BPC SUPERVISORS; ASSIST IN CREATING POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND ESTABLISH INTERNAL CONTROLS THAT EFFECTIVELY PROTECT THE INTEGRITY AND SECURITY OF UI PROGRAM STAFF, PROGRAM OPERATIONS AND SYSTEMS, UI FUNDS, UI DATA AND OTHER STATE ASSETS; TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL FRAUD BY MINIMIZING PROGRAM VULNERABILITIES AND FAULTY PROCEDURES; AND TO HELP PREVENT IDENTITY THEFT.

Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment. All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the eligible (employment) list for at least one year.
