Job summary

MasTec Utility Services is hiring a UGE Laborer/Groundman – Cable Rehabilitation to support underground utility and cable rehabilitation teams in Florida. The role involves site preparation, material handling, and assisting skilled trades in cable installation, removal, and related tasks.

Responsibilities include aiding with cable rehab, manholes, conduits, and excavation work, while ensuring safety and equipment readiness.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum: Valid driver's license.
• Preferred: 1 year of experience in utility construction or a related field.
• Preferred: CDL Class A license.
• Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain construction sites, loading/unloading materials, and assisting skilled workers.
• Support cable rehabilitation and underground utility crews with daily activities.
• Identify utilities and monitor dig crews to prevent hits.
• Clean and maintain equipment and keep trucks stocked with tools and supplies.
• Assist with manholes, handholes, vaults, conduits and related infrastructure works.
• Support restoration, trenching, backfilling, and general site cleanup.

Job Summary

The UGE Laborer/Groundman – Cable Rehabilitation supports the Underground Utility and Cable Rehabilitation construction teams with daily field operations. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining construction sites, loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment, and assisting skilled craft workers and cable rehabilitation crews with various construction activities.

The Laborer/Groundman assists with cable rehabilitation, cable installation and removal, cable pulling, underground utility work, manhole and handhole activities, conduit installation, excavation, trenching, backfilling, and job-site restoration

Responsibilities

• Clean and prepare the construction site for work, removing debris and possible hazards.
• Assist the tradesmen in completing their skilled task more effectively.
• Identify utilities and watch dig crew dig to prevent utility hits.
• Clean up and maintain equipment.
• Restock trucks with supplies ensuring crews have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.
• Assist the Cable Rehabilitation crew with daily underground utility and cable rehabilitation activities.
• Assist with work involving manholes, handholes, vaults, conduits, and underground utility infrastructure.
• Ability to identify and properly handle different cable types, conduit, fittings, and construction materials.

Qualifications

Minimum

• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in utility construction, cable rehabilitation underground construction, or a related field.
• Valid CDL Class A driver’s license required.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
