Job summary

The University of Florida in Gainesville is seeking a board-certified hematology/oncology physician to provide comprehensive patient care in the outpatient clinic and infusion suite.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, develop individualized treatment plans, supervise nursing and pharmacy staff, participate in tumor boards, and help advance clinical protocols while maintaining high standards of safety and patient experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice medicine in Florida (Chapter 458).

Responsibilities

Job Description:

• Provides comprehensive hematology and oncology patient care, including the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and ongoing management of patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions in the outpatient clinic and infusion suite.
• Oversees the clinical care of patients receiving treatment in the outpatient infusion suite and/or clinic, including assessing treatment readiness, reviewing laboratory results, managing treatment related complications, and collaborating with nursing and pharmacy staff to facilitate the safe delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, anti-neoplastic treatment, blood products, and supportive care.
• Works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including pharmacists, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, and other support staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Orders, reviews and interprets diagnostic reports, including laboratory studies, pathology, imaging, and other diagnostic tests, and follows up in a timely manner.
• Prescribes chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, blood products, supportive medications, and other treatment regimens as appropriate to the patient's diagnosis and clinical condition.
• Develops individualized treatment plans aligned with clinical and institutional pathways and refers patients to appropriate specialists, clinical services, supportive care programs, and community resources as needed.
• Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing, infusion, and support staff as appropriate.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement initiatives, patient safety standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and infection prevention practices.
• Participates in tumor boards, multidisciplinary conferences, peer review, quality assurance activities, provider meetings, and other clinical and operational meetings as requested.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and updating of clinical protocols, treatment pathways, and standards of practice as requested.
• Identify, consider and enroll (or refer), when appropriate for clinical trials to support optimal cancer patient care.
• Engage in lifelong learning and demonstrate high-quality care delivery and decision making.
• Support an environment of inquiry, excellence, and collaboration.
• May manage the daily clinical operations of a hematology and oncology practice or patient care program.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE

• Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Extended work hours may be required based on clinic, infusion suite, and patient care needs.

Salary is negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Licensed to practice medicine in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes, plus four years of appropriate experience. Completion of an accredited fellowship in Hematology and Oncology, Medical Oncology, or Hematology fellowship program may substitute for the required experience.

Preferred:

• Ambulatory clinical experience providing care to adult hematology and oncology patients.
• Experience managing patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusions, and other systemic or supportive therapies.
• Experience participating in or leading a multidisciplinary oncology care team
