Job summary

National Life Group in Addison, TX, is seeking a Sr. Claims Specialist to review, analyze, and adjudicate moderately complex claims with accuracy and compassion under general supervision.

You will apply policy provisions and guidelines to determine eligibility and deliver timely outcomes that support policyholders and the company’s financial strength. This onsite role requires four days per week in the office (Mon–Thu) with core days subject to change.

Role Summary

Join our Claims team as a Sr. Claims Specialist where you will review, analyze, and adjudicate claims with accuracy and compassion while working under general supervision. You will apply sound judgment to determine eligibility, resolve issues, and deliver timely and fair outcomes that support our commitment to policyholders while protecting the company’s financial strength. In this role, you will build the skills to manage and progressively assume responsibility for a full caseload of moderately complex claims, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement within the claims function.

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review and verify claim submissions for completeness, accuracy, and required documentation while working under general supervision.
  • Analyze and adjudicate claims by applying policy provisions, company guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and determine appropriate resolutions with limited guidance.
  • Document case details thoroughly and accurately in claims systems to ensure timely processing and benefit payment.
  • Communicate with claimants, beneficiaries, agents, and internal partners by phone, email, or mail to gather information, explain claim decisions, and provide updates.
  • Resolve claims-related questions using sound judgment and established guidelines.
  • Manage a caseload of claims appropriate to training level, ensuring effective organization and timely follow‑up.
  • Recognize trends or recurring issues and escalated appropriately to leadership.
  • Participate in ongoing training to maintain and expand knowledge of claims processes, tools, systems, and insurance products.
  • Stay current with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Commit to professional development by engaging in industry learning opportunities and working toward relevant designations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, human sciences, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze information, apply sound judgment, and make informed decisions in moderately complex situations while demonstrating strong analytical, critical-thinking, policy interpretation, and customer-service skills.
  • Possesses strong attention to detail and effective conflict resolution, business writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organization, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in claims, financial services, customer service, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of life and annuity products, claims practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Professional designations such as AIC, FLMI, or equivalent, or progress toward completion.

Base Pay Range

The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Additional Compensation and Benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Hourly Pay Range

$21 - $31 USD
