Northrop Grumman is seeking a Driver to support its organization in Linthicum, Maryland.

Pick up materials, deliver to intended destination in a timely and efficient manner so materials arrive safely and intact as when freight was tendered to you. Verify count of material picked up and note any exceptions including possible damage or count discrepancies (over packs and palletized materials count only, not internal contents.) Move material (both hazardous if certified, and routine materials in an efficient and safe manner) Drivers will be utilizing various material handling equipment such as pallet jacks (electric or manual) hand trucks, J bars, or any other devices required to load transport and unload. Operate company vehicles such as forklifts and over the road vehicles to pick up and deliver various materials, supplies, products.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

All mechanical, electrical, and manual equipment required to perform the job. Use various company vehicles, hand trucks, forklifts, etc., and required safety equipment.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:

Provide training assistance and lessons learned to other less experienced drivers to help ensure continuity of knowledge and skills.

WORKING PROCEDURE:
  • Ensure you as a driver are familiar with your routes, understand your vehicles GVW, Max weight capacity, bed height, width of vehicle and any special instructions that may be required by the customer at the pickup/drop off location - Verbal instruction may be issued in lieu of written instruction.
  • Ensure as a driver you have been shown & understand the proper operations of the lift gate on your vehicle.
  • All drivers should carry an up-to-date “Emergency guide book” in truck as well as a company‑supplied local map, and ensure all safety gear is present, i.e., triangles, spill kit, fire extinguishers, first aid kit.
  • Personnel assigned to dispatch will understand times expected at each stop and which driver will be doing which route. Driver is responsible to coordinate with management and dispatch for any concerns and ensure all required stops are covered.
  • Drivers shall keep a manual drivers log, as required by law, recording mileage, departure time, first stop arrival, name of stop. Any discrepancies/concerns should be addressed to dispatcher or direct manager.
  • Drivers will coordinate with dispatch or direct manager if they have picked up salvage/scrap materials to ensure they understand where to deliver the materials and are NEVER to throw scrap materials in dumpsters. Driver must deliver said materials to proper location. Scrapped material must be disposed of in accordance with established salvage procedures.
  • Drivers and approved NGC personnel are responsible to load and unload trucks and ensure there is adequate blocking/bracing/strapping of loads for protection during the transit by reducing movement of product during transport. Utilize all required material handling equipment to move material safely.
  • Obtain and verify all materials, using required equipment to check and identify quantity, size, weight, and condition at location. Record discrepancies and report in drivers log and advise direct manager by phone/text, if necessary.
  • Drivers with HAZMAT endorsements are responsible to load and transport materials safely, including determining if there are “non‑compatibles” when loading vehicle. Check all cargo prior to loading for appropriate hazardous placards and labeling when required.
  • Each driver is responsible to maintain inventory of straps, load bars, hand cart, pallet jack, stretch wrap, and any other required tooling.
  • Maintain all logs and records as required by law to perform the job, including vehicle maintenance logs. Advise dispatch of mechanical issues.
  • Only approved Northrop Grumman employees allowed in company vehicles.
  • Work under the direction of dispatcher or direct manager.
  • Record, maintain, and update information concerning tag expiration date, DOT inspection dates, mileage for oil changes, using a drivers log book with date of your observation and other discrepancies as required.
  • Utilize tracking devices, scanners, and the like for material movement visibility.
  • Maintain training certifications as required.
  • Drive professionally and obey all traffic laws.
  • Maintain your equipment and keep the inside of bed of your truck in clean or orderly condition.

Education Requirement:

High School graduate or recognized equivalent

Experience Requirement:

Must Have a valid state‑issued Drivers license with a current CDL “A” endorsement and be able to demonstrate skills required to perform the job via a structured interview. Must have previous experience with driving commercial vehicles (straight truck or tractor). Must be able to obtain and maintain a US “Secret” clearance as well as HAZMAT endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or distribution environment. Experience with dispatch coordination, manual driver logs, and DOT compliance documentation. Experience handling hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations
