Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced welder in Sunnyvale, CA, to join a fabrication team working with FCAW, SMAW and GMAW processes. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 5+ years of industrial welding experience, ability to read weld symbols and blueprints, and US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow safety regulations, procedures and weld symbols.
  • Setup equipment by setting amperage, voltage, pressures, feeds, and speeds within limits specified and obtaining specified electrode.
  • Position and operate manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment to deposit welds in all positions at joint locations specified where care must be exercised to produce quality welds with uniform penetration.
  • Operate carbon arc torch to remove weldments from floorplate /strongback and backgouging as required.
  • Operate handling equipment to lift, move and position material.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.
  • Maintain in effect certification for welding ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys and take and acceptably pass periodic working tests.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Weld various types, sizes and shapes of materials to make fabrications utilizing Stick, Mig and Flux Core welding processes requiring care to produce a quality joint where methods, sequences, and tooling have been established.

TOOLS, PROCESSES AND EQUIPMENT:

SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), welding equipment, torches, regulators, floor operated cranes, welding positioners, fixtures, slag gun, grinder, hand truck, forklift, ladder, and scaffold. PPE includes safety glasses, face shield, respirator, gloves, weld jacket and cap, etc.

MATERIAL:

Ferrous and nonferrous metals and their alloys, plate, structural shapes, castings and weldments, etc. Oxygen, acetylene and inert gases, flux, welding wire and rod, etc.

WORKING EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Read and follow safety regulations, procedures and weld symbols.

  3. Position and operate manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment to deposit single and multiple layers and weld in all positions at joint locations specified where care must be exercised to produce quality welds with uniform penetration.
  4. Operate carbon arc torch to remove weldments from floorplate /strongback and backgouging as required.
  5. Operate handling equipment to lift, move and position material.
  6. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  7. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.
  8. Maintain in effect certification for welding ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys and take and acceptably pass periodic working tests.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Experience utilizing FCAW, SMAW and GMAW welding processes.
  • Experience reading weld symbols and blueprints.
  • Ability to perform and pass an onsite welding skill assessment.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of welding experience in an industrial heavy Fabrication environment.
  • Experience with carbon arcing/backgouging.
  • Experience with AWS Mil. standards.
