Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking an inspection technician to perform inspection of standard parts, processes and purchased materials to verify compliance with specifications, and assist inspectors by relocating tools. You will learn from leads in other work centers, maintain records and Quality Control forms, and perform acceptance tests as required.

This is a union represented position. The role offers a hands-on manufacturing environment in Sunnyvale, with opportunities to gain valuable experience

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Willingness to learn more about manufacturing.
• US Citizenship required.
• Tech/trade school completion or 2-year Associate’s degree in related technical subject.
• 1 year experience in manufacturing including use of standard measuring instruments or equivalent.
• Experience working inspection in a manufacturing setting.
• Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Responsibilities

• Retrieve tools from calibration and take to various work centers.
• Learn/train with leads in other work centers, including Inspectors.
• Inspect parts and assemblies by measurement and visual examination to determine acceptability where methods and sequences are established.
• Perform acceptance tests such as hardness, nondestructive, dielectric, insulation resistance, continuity and hydrostatic.
• Check processing operations for factors such as temperature, cycle time, viscosity, concentration of solutions, dimensions, material identification, finish and surface condition.
• Identify defective material, report conditions regarding equality level to Quality Control and Manufacturing Supervisor and refer problems to supervisor for disposition.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Perform inspection of standard and routine parts, processes and purchased materials to determine compliance with the specifications. Assist Inspectors by retrieving Tools and taking them to various work centers. When not moving Tools around the various work centers, learning from leads in other works centers to gain valuable experience.

DIRECTION RECEIVED

Receives assignments and general instructions from supervisor but may receive assistance and guidance from higher classified inspectors.

1. Retrieve tools from calibration and take to various work centers.
2. Learn/train with leads in other work centers, including Inspectors.
3. Inspect parts and assemblies by measurement and visual examination to determine acceptability where methods and sequences are established.
4. Perform acceptance tests such as hardness, nondestructive, dielectric, insulation resistance, continuity and hydrostatic.
5. Check processing operations for such factors as temperature, cycle time, viscosity, concentration of solutions, dimensions, material identification, finish and surface condition.
6. Identify defective material, report conditions regarding equality level to Quality Control and Manufacturing Supervisor and refer problems to supervisor for disposition, as necessary.
7. Maintain necessary records, record data, initiate and process Quality Control forms such as DMR’s, charts, sample record cards, Material Rejection notices and other forms as required.
8. Other duties as assigned by Lead or supervisor.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Willingness to learn more about manufacturing and work in a manufacturing environment.
• US Citizenship required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Tech/trade school completion or 2-year Associate’s degree in related technical subject.
• 1 year experience in manufacturing including the use of standard measuring instruments or equivalent.
• Experience working Inspection in a manufacturing setting.
