Job summary

U-Haul is seeking a General Manager to oversee our moving and storage center in San Jose, ensuring profitability, efficiency, and safe operations. You will hire, mentor and lead staff, monitor inventory and equipment, and drive performance with a strong focus on customer care.

Responsibilities include managing the P&L, controlling costs, and implementing training through U-Haul University while maintaining a high standard of service and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of management experience with financial results responsibility.
• Computer literacy and strong organizational skills.
• Proven ability to manage in high-volume retail with P&L accountability.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

General Manager Responsibilities:

Minimum Requirements:

• 1-3 years of management experience in retail or another service industry with responsibility for financial results and customer satisfaction
• Computer expertise
• Organizational expertise
• Management proficiency in high-volume retail with profit and loss (P&L) accountability
• Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a good driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to work weekends and holidays

Work Environment:

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, fumes or irritating chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.

Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods both indoors and outdoors of remaining stationary, traversing spaces, repositioning to reach and use tools, and moving a minimum of 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.
