Job summary

Weber State University is seeking a part-time Tutor - Academic for the Ogden Learning Center. The position supports WSU students in Zoology, Physics, Psychology, Nutrition, Botany, Microbiology, Geography, Geology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, and more, with training provided and potential for Level 3 certification and Lead Tutor progression.

Hours are 7–20 per week with an hourly pay rate of $14.50, and the role originates from the Learning Support department.

Qualifications

  • Must be a WSU student.
  • Must have earned a B or better in the courses you propose to tutor.
  • GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Participation in Levels I & II CRLA tutor training.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor WSU students in the subjects proposed at the Learning Center.
  • Tutoring is individual or drop-in; hours are set by the tutor.
  • Complete Levels I–III training; potential advancement to Lead Tutor with higher pay.

Tutor WSU students in the subjects you propose at the Learning Center as part of the Learning Support department. Tutoring is done on an individual appointment and/or drop-in basis. Availability for appointments and/or drop-in hours are determined by the tutor. We require and provide training in tutoring techniques. In your application, please indicate the specific subject(s) you are interested in tutoring.

May include hours spent outside the center serving as a Learning Assistant in a related course, if applicable and of interest. This position offers three levels of certification, which reflect the depth of the training the tutor receives. Each level comes with a rate increase.

  • Level 1 focuses on training tutors in the basics of being a tutor.
  • Level 2 is contingent on maintaining Level 1 training certification, and focuses on metacognitive and psychosocial requirements for tutoring.
  • Level 3 is contingent on maintaining Level 1 and 2 training certifications, and focuses on a more holistic view of learning center management and student development theories
  • Tutors who complete Level 3 are eligible to advance to the Lead Tutor role, which carries increased pay and responsibilities. This role provides direct tutoring support to students while also assisting the Tutoring Coordinator with management of the center, staff mentorship, and the implementation of tutoring training.

Please note that the Lead Tutor position is contingent upon the tutoring center’s needs and requires formal approval from the coordinator.

This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a WSU student.
  • Must have earned a B or better in the courses you propose to tutor.
  • A strong working knowledge of the subject matter you will be tutoring.
  • Good listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Must participate in completing Levels I & II of tutor CRLA training
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to tutor many different courses in your selected subject area.
